If you're going to write poetry seriously, you need to decide where you stand on this—can a poem ever be about nothing? As in:

It's not about death; it's just a description of a bird in winter. 

It's not about grief; it's just about a break-up I went through. 

I know where I stand: a poem without Big Meaning isn't a poem; it's a journal entry with line breaks.
