It’s not a spoiler to say it—the Severance finale was a historic piece of damn good writing.

The stakes were sky-high because of fight scenes and the fate of society, and they were sky-high emotionally and psychologically. And all of it earned and precise. Every beat building and crafted.

As poets, there’s so much we can learn and unpack from Severance. We could talk about diction and Milchick. We could explore the mythos behind the corporate cult of Lumon. Today, we’re going to focus on how the speaker of a poem can embody conflict.

P.S. If you're new here, my poetry collection, Good Girl and Other Yearnings, is available for pre-order (and is officially out APRIL 18TH!)

Below, for paid subscribers, are 3 Severance-inspired prompts.

AND an invitation for a free roundtable workshop on April 23rd at 8pm EST.

AND paid subscribers can submit their monthly poem for one-on-one feedback.
